In this type of treatment, the amount of hormones in the patient’s body is changed. Hormones are chemicals your body makes naturally that help control the activity of certain cells or organs.
Doctors use hormone therapy because hormone levels control many types of cancer, including some types such as breast cancer and prostate cancer.
Target therapies
Many other types of drugs also treat cancer, some of the newer ones being called targeted drugs or targeted therapies.
Targeted drugs damage cancer cells by blocking genes or proteins found in cancer cells.
Because these treatments work specifically on cancer cells, they cause different side effects and usually do less damage to healthy cells.
Immunotherapy
This type of treatment is innovative as it helps the body’s natural defenses to fight cancer. it is estimated that it will play an increasingly important role in cancer treatment in the future.
