Targeted therapies
Many other types of drugs also treat cancer; some of the newer ones are called targeted drugs or targeted therapies. Targeted drugs damage cancer cells by blocking the genes or proteins found in cancer cells.
Because these treatments specifically target cancer cells, they cause different side effects and generally cause less harm to healthy cells.
Immunotherapy
This type of treatment is innovative as it helps the body’s natural defenses fight cancer. It is estimated to play an increasingly important role in cancer treatment in the future.
